In 8th grade, students had the exciting opportunity to choose between dissecting an owl pellet or a clam, with most opting for the clam dissection! During this hands-on activity, they learned how to properly use a scalpel and explored how a clam lives and moves. Each student worked with gloves and goggles for safety and had the option to wear a mask and hospital gown, as sometimes water remains inside the clam when it is opened. Students also engaged with worksheets to identify and match the different parts of the clam as they dissected it, reinforcing their understanding of its anatomy.
